Michael was born in Anaheim, California and shortly thereafter moved to Silver City, New Mexico. After graduating from Silver High School in 1988 he earned a Bachelors of Science Degree in Mathematics and a Masters of Arts in Teaching from Western New Mexico University. Michael was fortunate to go back to his old high school, Silver High, where he taught math (Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry Trigonometry, Precalculus, and AP Calculus) for nine years.
In 2004 Michael and his family moved to Redding. After helping his brother with his painting business for three years, in 2007 Michael decided to get back into the classroom. This will be his fourth year teaching at UPREP. This year Michael is teaching Algebra 1, Geometry, and Trigonometry/Precalculus.
Michael married his high school sweetheart, Joy, who works with Shasta County Mental Health and they have been married for 21 years. They have one daughter named Mychal Joy, who is going to be a freshman at Chico State University.
Like most of the other staff members, Michael has also been a coach along with his teaching responsibilities. He has coached cross country, basketball, and golf. This year he will be coaching junior high girls basketball.
